Your Role:

The GSTC Auditor and Country Representative plays a crucial role in development of GSTC Program of UCSL within the country. This role involves planning, performing, and following up on audits of hotels and tour operators against GSTC criteria. Additionally, the position includes active engagement in the local tourism industry to promote sustainable practices and expand the GSTC certification footprint.

Core Responsibilities:

• Conducting Audits: You will be responsible for performing GSTC audits of hotels and tour operators, both onsite and remotely.
• Local Representation: As a Country Representative, you will serve as the primary point of contact for GSTC Program in your region. This involves maintaining strong relationships with local stakeholders, promoting the benefits of GSTC certification, and supporting businesses in their sustainability journey.
• Client Engagement and Acquisition: You will actively engage with the tourism industry to identify potential clients interested in GSTC certification. This includes attending industry events, delivering presentations, and fostering partnerships that align with GSTC’s mission.
• Planning and Promotion: In collaboration with the UCSL team, you will plan and participate in promotional activities, including workshops, webinars, and other events aimed at raising awareness of GSTC certification and its benefits.
• Collaboration: Work closely with the GSTC Program Manager and other internal stakeholders to ensure consistent communication and alignment with organizational goals.

What You Bring

Our ideal candidate combines professional experience, strong skills, and a passion for sustainable tourism that aligns with UCSL's values:

• Professionalism: At least 2 years of experience in the hospitality, tourism, environmental management, or social sector. Familiarity with GSTC and other tourism certification standards is a plus. A willingness and capability for ongoing learning and professional development are essential.
• Communication Skills: Fluent in both oral and written English, with native proficiency in Thai, Indonesian, or Japanese. Proficiency in additional languages is considered an asset.
• Organizational Skills: Excellent personal organizational and work planning skills, demonstrating high productivity and the ability to manage competing work priorities. Strong personal and work ethics, with a successful record of project development and management. A solutions-oriented approach to working with clients and within a team. Proven ability to plan and organize work independently and meet deadlines.
• Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment and to maintain effective working relations with people of different national and cultural backgrounds. The ability to work successfully as part of a team is essential.
• Analytical Skills: Well-developed analytical and systematic problem-solving skills, demonstrating sound reasoning abilities and logical decision-making.
• Relationship Management: Strong interpersonal skills to deal effectively with the auditing role, remaining professional when handling complaints and/or conflicts of interest. Ability to work in an international arena and interact with other international organizations.
• Travel Readiness: A significant amount of travel is required for this role.
• Education: At least a secondary education certificate, preferably in Sustainability, Environmental Management, Tourism, or Hospitality. A Master's or PhD degree is highly appreciated.
• Qualification: Background knowledge and training in quality and/or environmental management systems (such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, or other relevant ISO standards from internationally or nationally recognized training organizations) is required. Lead auditor qualification based on ISO 19011 is required. Successful completion of GSTC's Training for Auditors is highly desirable. If not yet completed, we are prepared to support your participation in this training.

Job description

The MSC Fishery Team Leader will be responsible for conducting audits to verify that seafood product identified as MSC certified originated from a certified source.

An overview of the main duties is provided below:

• Performing audits as the Team Leader (including pre-audit preparation and post-audit follow up);
• Consolidation and writing reports against the MSC's Fishery Standard and Certification Requirements using UCSL's document templates;
• Participating in annual training;
• Any other duties as assigned.

Experience and Professional Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in business, economics, science or technical subject (e.g. supply chain and logistics management, food/seafood science and fisheries science);
• OR 3 years' experience in the fisheries sector related to the tasks under the responsibility of the team leader;
• Pass the MSC's fishery team leader training course at least every 5 years;
• Have undertaken at least 2 MSC fishery assessment or surveillance site visits as a team member in the last 5 years; or for new fishery team leaders only: have undertaken an assessment as team leader that will be witnessed by an MSC-appointed accreditation body as part of a CAB's initial accreditation audit;
• Obtained a Chartered Quality Institute/International Register of Certificated Auditors' (CQI/IRCA) or Exemplar Global-recognized lead assessor accreditation in either: Environmental Management Systems (EMS) / Quality Management Systems (QMS) / Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) approved standards / Hazard Analysis Critical; Control Point (HACCP);
• OR registered as an EMS/QMS auditor with CQI/IRCA or Exemplar Global;
• OR passed a CQI/IRCA or Exemplar Global recognized course on auditing based upon ISO 19011 (which had a minimum duration of 3 days);
• Demonstrate competence when scoring the fishery, setting conditions and monitoring their fulfillment;
• Have knowledge of the legislative and normative legal framework in the field of fisheries management, fishery risk assessment, relevant national and international laws;
• Demonstrated continuous professional development as relevant for the type of conducted audits;
• Fluent Russian and English (spoken and written), knowledge of other languages would be an asset.

• Participating in annual training;
• Any other duties as assigned.

Experience and Professional Qualifications

• University degree in fisheries, marine conservation biology, natural resources environmental management or relevant field (e.g. economics, mathematics, statistics);
• OR 3 years' management or research experience in a marine conservation biology, fisheries, natural resources or environmental management position;
• 3 years' or more experience of applying relevant stock assessment techniques being used by the fishery under assessment;
• OR Primary authorship of 2 peer-reviewed stock assessments of a type used by the fishery under assessment;
• 3 years' or more experience working with the biology and population dynamics of the target species or species with similar biology;
• Pass the MSC's fishery team member training course at least every 5 years;
• Ability to undertake a stock assessment using stock assessment techniques relevant to the fishery;
• Demonstrate knowledge of, and ability to interpret, scientific information relating to the biological processes of the target species, or species with similar population dynamics.
• Demonstrated continuous professional development as relevant for the type of conducted audits;
• IT literacy with proficiency across Microsoft Office;

• University degree in fisheries, marine conservation biology, natural resources environmental management or relevant field (e.g. economics, mathematics, statistics);
• OR 3 years' management or research experience in a marine conservation biology, fisheries, natural resources or environmental management position;
• 3 years' or more experience in research into, policy analysis for, or management of, the impact of fisheries on aquatic ecosystems including at least two of the following topics: bycatch, endangered, threatened, or protected (ETP) species, habitats, ecosystem interactions. AND Demonstrate knowledge of, and ability to interpret, scientific data relating to the impact of fisheries on at least 2 of the topics listed above;
• Pass the MSC's fishery team member training course at least every 5 years;
• Ability to undertake a stock assessment using stock assessment techniques relevant to the fishery;
• Demonstrate knowledge of, and ability to interpret, scientific information relating to the biological processes of the target species, or species with similar population dynamics.
• Demonstrated continuous professional development as relevant for the type of conducted audits;
• IT literacy with proficiency across Microsoft Office;

• Ability to demonstrate a good understanding of the types of management system(s) and laws applicable to the fishery under assessment;
• Pass the MSC's fishery team member training course at least every 5 years;
• Ability to undertake a stock assessment using stock assessment techniques relevant to the fishery;
• Demonstrate knowledge of, and ability to interpret, scientific information relating to the biological processes of the target species, or species with similar population dynamics.

Job description

The MSC/ASC Program Fishery Manager will be responsible for the Certification assessment planning and implementation control incl. conformance of the accreditation standards and normative regulations of relevant certification schemes. The MSC/ASC Program Fishery Manager will subordinate to the Director of Marine Program within UCSL. Depending on the permanent residence location, several business trips per year might be required.

An overview of the main duties is provided below:

• Communication with fishery clients;
• Application review;
• Certification assessment planning and control;
• Maintaining the documents related to the MSC and ASC certification activity;
• Management of document flow of the certification systems;
• Execution of certificates;
• Work with the CRM system;
• Development and fulfillment of corrective and preventive actions on internal and external audits within MSC and ASC certification;
• Expert auditors work evaluation and supervision;
• Scheme Owners (MSC, ASC, etc.) as well as any relevant to the Fisheries information internal and external communication (via e.g., stakeholder / expert / client newsletter, etc.).

Experience and Professional Qualifications:

• University degree in a relevant field (Fishery, Aquaculture, Environmental Management, and other related fields) would be preferred, however Administration/Certification/Assurance related fields/experience are also considered as an asset;
• At least 3 years of professional experience in evaluation and/ or certification related activities;
• Successful completion/willingness to obtain the official training courses on the standards ISO/IEC 17065:2012, ISO 19011:2018 as well as all MSC Fishery related training modules;
• IT literate with proficiency across Microsoft Office and/or CRM system;
• Fluent English (spoken and written) and Russian are necessary
