Implementation Guidance on the GSTC Requirements for Hotel's Performance against Eight GSTC Criteria

Dear clients,

This is an official announcement on the release of the first GSTC Requirements for Hotel Performance against GSTC Criteria. It offers further details to clarify the minimum performance requirement hotels must meet to demonstrate they comply with the eight Criteria described in the document, aiming to facilitate hotels’ preparation for their certification process.

These requirements have been developed to ensure that GSTC-Certified businesses achieve a baseline performance level with continuous improvement. As a first step, GSTC has established a total of 19 requirements across 8 Criteria.

It aims to prevent hotels from greenwashing and encourages better sustainability practices. It's important to note that requirements may vary depending on the number of renewals of certification.

The new requirements will take effect starting from January 1, 2025, with a transition period until the end of this year. During this period, we encourage hotels to familiarize themselves with the new requirements.

Effective January 1, 2025, all hotels undergoing initial certification or certification renewal shall meet the defined performance indicators outlined in this document. During GSTC Certification process, we will assess hotels against these requirements for all initial and renewal certifications from this date onwards.

Thereby, we inform our clients undergoing surveillance audits in 2025, as part of an existing certification cycle, of the new performance requirements, which they should follow in order to avoid any related non-conformities.

Please refer to the full guidance document for complete details on the specific performance requirements. Don’t hesitate to contact us at a.zavadskaya@ucsl.eu if you have questions or require clarification regarding these requirements.
Regards,
