UCSL at the European Conference on
Sustainable Tourism in Nicosia, Cyprus
UCSL United Certification Systems Ltd attended the European Conference on Sustainable Tourism – Celebrating 20 Years of Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Initiative (CSTI) Leadership in Sustainability, held in Nicosia, Cyprus, on February 27.

Bringing together policymakers, tourism professionals, researchers, and sustainability experts, the conference created a platform for open exchange and practical insight. UCSL CEO, Olga Shuvalova, engaged with leading industry voices, contributing to discussions on key challenges, opportunities, and emerging solutions for sustainable tourism at both local and international levels.

Alignment, collaboration, meaningful leadership, and credible standards – themes that resonated throughout the conference. As a purpose-driven organization and GSTC-accredited certification body based in Cyprus and operating worldwide, UCSL’s team is proud to contribute to the global movement, advancing the adoption of impactful, high-integrity sustainable practices to shape a better future for both people and nature.

Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) Standards are a consistent part of high-level tourism discussions across Europe, among both public and private sectors, with leading industry players such as easyJet holidays referring to GSTC as the highest standard for tourism sustainability certification during the conference. As the sector navigates a crowded landscape of sustainability claims and certification schemes, GSTC is a point of reference that stakeholders increasingly align with, providing clarity and practical guidance for the industry.
We extend our sincere gratitude to CSTI and the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU for hosting a platform that brings together industry peers, decision-makers, and sustainability champions from our region and all across Europe. Such voices play an instrumental role in driving progress across the industry.

“What we call a destination, people who live there call home,” as noted Matt Callaghan, Chief Operating Officer of easyJet holidays and Board Member of GSTC, underlining the need for more responsible and community-centred approaches.

For tourism industry organizations, the key question is no longer why, but what to do next and how to move forward in a structured and credible way. At UCSL, we work with hotels and tour operators all over the world to map and define that path, supported by local experts across the markets we operate in.

For those ready to move forward, the next step is to start.
