Independent Verification for Sustainability Labels under EU EmpCo

Prepare your sustainability label, badge or proprietary programme for the new EU requirements – from scheme readiness and verification architecture to independent third-party conformity assessment.
UCSL supports environmental and social sustainability labels under Directive (EU) 2024/825, applicable from 27 September 2026.
Who This Service Is For
The service is designed for:
  • Sustainability label, badge and trust-mark owners
  • Digital platforms and marketplaces
  • Hospitality, tourism and service-sector programmes
  • Industry associations and membership schemes
  • Environmental and social-impact certification programmes
Our verification models can cover businesses, properties, products, processes and other defined participants across single-market and international schemes.
Is Your Label Affected?
Your programme may need review if:
  • Your badge is visible to EU consumers
on websites, booking platforms, products, marketing materials or other commercial communications.
  • It communicates an environmental or social characteristic
such as sustainability, inclusion, responsible sourcing, ethical practices, community impact or environmental performance.
  • rather than a label established by a public authority.

Make Your Sustainability Label Independently Verifiable
From 27 September 2026, Directive (EU) 2024/825 changes the conditions for using private sustainability labels in consumer-facing commercial communications across the EU.

A private sustainability label must be based on a qualifying certification scheme unless it is established by a public authority. The scheme must include transparent requirements, defined procedures for non-conformity and objective monitoring by a competent and independent third party.

The rules are not limited to environmental labels. They also cover voluntary labels referring to social characteristics.
